Upcoming Courses for Fall 2010

Excel
This two-part course is ideal for anyone requiring a solid understanding of Microsoft Excel. Appropriate for both beginners and intermediate users, the course combines the most helpful concepts from levels one, two, and three into one class. It starts with an introduction to core concepts (cells, formatting, and formulas), introduces some time-saving shortcuts, and ends with real-world applications, VLOOKUPS, and the infamous "Pivot Table.” When the class is finished, the student should be comfortable creating his own spreadsheets, using formulas and functions, and solving common spreadsheet-related problems for work or school.

The class is hands-off but strongly encourages student participation, because most students actually learn faster when they're interacting with the instructor- not wasting time entering data or fumbling with the mouse. This method allows the class to cover much more material than a traditional class could- in much less time. All students will receive take-home materials including a shortcut sheet and a copy of the lesson files from class.

Instructor: Mike Zumchak
Dates: September 21 & 28, 6-9 pm
Cost: $89, $49 for King’s students

Online Marketing
Understanding online marketing is key to business success in today’s world. This two-part seminar will cover the basics of search engine management (SEM) and search engine optimization (SEO). Instruction in how and why to use Google Analytics, how to design an effective banner advertisement, and how to manage click-through advertisements will also be given. The instructor will provide an overview of free resources that can be used in internet marketing.

Instructor: Alex Andreyev
Dates: November 9 & 16, 7-9 pm

Shakespeare: Acting and Oratory
The techniques that are used to train Shakespearean actors can also be developed to develop compelling public-speaking. This class will focus on the skills needed for both the classical theater and the contemporary lectern: lifting thoughts off the page, activating language, and crafting the audience’s mental and emotional experience of a speech. A fair amount of focus will be place on learning the techniques of unaffected, clear, and powerful vocal production.

Instructor: Kenan Minkoff
Dates: October 30, November 6, 13, & 20, 1-4 pm
Cost: $199, $99 for King’s students

Naturalistic Acting: Scene Study
Scene Study is not a subject, but a tool for teaching acting and the process of bringing dramatic texts to life in performance. This class will focus on the techniques of naturalistic acting and, through the practical application of the aesthetic principles of drama, will also be instructive in the arts of directing, and dramatic writing.

Instructor: Kenan Minkoff
