Academic FAQ'sWhat students should not apply to The King’s College?
The King’s College is plainly not for students seeking careers in
science, medicine, technology, or engineering. A student who wishes to go
directly into classroom teaching would not be well-served by our Foundations of
Education Concentration which is intended for students headed to masters degree
programs in teaching. Nor are we a college for students who need to know how
each course they take will contribute to their job skills. Some courses offer
the side benefit of marketable skills, but The King’s College focuses on
preparing long-distance runners, not sprinters. We are a college for students
who think strategically about where they would like to be ten years after they
graduate. Students in a hurry to get a credential and get a job are likely to be
frustrated by a curriculum full of old books and deep questions that often lack
precise answers.
Students who dislike cities or are turned off by a
fast-paced environment are not suited for King’s. We are right in the center of
the nation’s busiest, most intense city. And students in need of a high degree
of reassurance and comforting affirmation should avoid King’s. We are a
demanding place that aims to prepare students for a world of hard edges.
