Hardware

Processor Speed
Modern computers come equipped with either Intel or AMD processors. The King's College recommends that your computer use at least a dual core processor. Please note that the higher the clock speed, the faster the laptop.

System Memory
The King’s College recommends at least 2 GB of RAM for all computers.

Video
We recommend that you have a dedicated video card, especially for computers running Windows Vista and Windows 7. There will be quite a lot of video available online, so a video card that can handle video streaming is essential.

Hard Drive
If you're not interested in saving videos, music or photos, 60 - 100 GB is sufficient. If you are, it is suggested that you purchase a hard drive of 250 GB or more.

Backup Devices
The King’s College also recommends that you purchase an external hard drive to backup important documents and files (such as music, video, and applications). Documents can take up to 1 MB of space per Word document, songs are around 3 - 5 MB, and video files are about 300 MB for 30 minutes of video (depending on quality). Be sure to plan accordingly and purchase sufficient backup space.

Networking Card
You will need a network card or a wireless connection to the Internet. A dial-up connection is not sufficient for video-streaming and other work you will be doing. You should have a high-speed (DSL or cable) connection to the Internet.

Software

Each King's College student is required to have Microsoft Office 2007 or later (the College is currently using Office 2010 for Windows and Office 2011 for Mac). We recommend the latest versions so the student's software will be compatible with the software their professors are using.

Microsoft Office Professional
The King's College has an agreement with Microsoft that allows us to sell some software at a reduced price. To purchase Microsoft Office Professional 2010 for Windows or Office for Mac 2011 go to your Student Portal and click on the "Microsoft Purchasing Program" link.

Anti-Virus
We require that all computers sending information to our network have Anti-Virus Software installed. The college uses Symantec Anti-Virus, but other anti-virus software is ok.

Student Portal
The Student Portal provides class schedules, textbook information, financial aid information, information regarding your bill, and grades.  The Student Portal is available at:  https://cams.tkc.edu/estudent.

Online Portal
The Online Portal is the primary vehicle for online learning.  The online portal provides all the information you need on your classes including professor contact information, syllabi, assignments, and all other course information.  It is available at:  http://online.tkc.edu.

For more information email admissions@tkc.edu or call 212-659-3610.
