International StudentsThere is nothing quite like the tapestry of
cultures in New York City. The King’s College is privileged to have students
from all over the world – students who share the common desire to lead the
strategic public and private institutions of their countries.
As mentioned before, The King’s College is not for everyone. Our curriculum
requires a high level of written and oral communication. We are committed to
helping you determine if it is an appropriate match for you. Due to the
increased level of international applicants, we request that you complete a
short international applicant questionnaire to identify you as a candidate for
admissions. This is the first step in the international student application
process. A “Step by Step Guide to Enrollment” and an application invitation will
be emailed to you once we have assessed your completed questionnaire. You will
need to complete an I20 application in order to be approved for an F-1 visa.
There are many challenges that accompany a course of study in a different
country, but the benefits are tremendous. If you think you are ready to pursue a
degree at The King’s College, please proceed to our
International Applicant Questionnaire.
If you have questions for us, please feel free to email Luke Smith at
lsmith@tkc.edu. Mr. Smith works with all of
our International Students. The Frequently Asked Questions section below may be
helpful as well.

1. Does The King’s College have many students from other nations?
Yes! The King’s College is driven by a vision to impact the world through
leadership. For this reason, we are excited to have many international
students. We have students that have traveled from every continent (except
Antarctica). International students make up about 2% of our current student
body.

2. Do I need the TOEFL exam in order to apply?
Yes, you need to take the TOEFL examine before you come to King's. In
special cases students will be granted provisional admissions to our intensive
language program or degree program without first taking a TOEFL. These
students will be asked to take this exam upon arrival at King’s.
The King’s College offers rigorous classes that require a strong grasp of
the English language. For this reason, in order to be admitted as a regular
student you must score a 550 or more on the TOEFL examine (paper based).
However, we will provisionally admit students who show academic preparation
and leadership potential consistent with our admissions criteria, despite a
lower TOEFL score. These students will start in our intensive language program
and must score above a 550 before starting a degree program.

3. What is an F-1 Student Visa and will I need one?
In order to gain access to the United States of American as a student you
will need to obtain a specific F 1 student visa. This gives you the freedom to
pass to and from US customs and to live in the US for the time allotted on the
visa. If you do not possess a US passport or green card you will need this
Visa, regardless of other documentation you may currently possess.

4. How do I obtain an F-1 Visa?
What is an I20? The F-1 Visa can be obtained by submitting an “I20
Certificate of Eligibility” to the local embassy or consulate in your country.
This I20 is a national computerized certificate that proves that you intend to
come as a student of a particular school. It is a statement by that school,
which acknowledges that a student is accepted and is capable of paying
tuition, fees and all living expenses for the entire stay in the USA.

5. Can I convert a different visa to a F-1 visa?
The process of converting a visa is almost the same as obtaining a new
visa. In almost every case you must set up an interview for the F-1 from your
home country embassy, where you will be asked to submit an I20.

6. How do I obtain an I20 Certificate of Eligibility?
Acquiring an I20 is a process. First you must apply and be accepted to The
King’s College. International students apply using the same application that
US students’ use located under admissions on our website. Once accepted you
will be asked to supply one or more “Affidavits of Support”. These are forms
given by you, your parents and other supporters, where the provider commits to
contribute a said amount for each year of study. Along with this statement the
provider must include proof of income (bank statements and payment stubs) that
show they have the means to do this. The last step is to make your first
payment, which is usually the net amount of your of your first year’s tuition
and living expenses, after financial aid.

7. Are international students eligible for financial aid?
Yes! The King’s College seeks to empower all its accepted students to
attend and will do everything possible to provide financial assistance in the
form of scholarships and grants. This is awarded after a completed Financial
Aid application, including proof of income, is submitted.

8. Is there housing available for International Students?
While there is housing available for any student of The King’s College, it
is worthwhile to seek off-campus housing with friends or family. The I20
application requires that you provide payment for your first year of housing
or that you supply an affidavit of support from a host person that commits to
providing you with lodging. The latter can greatly reduce the net payment
needed for an I20.

9. Are International Students allowed to work?
Many international students desire to embark on the noble task of working
their way through college. Unfortunately, US law does not allow F-1 students
to work off-campus during the duration of their status. However, international
students may work on-campus of the college they are attending. There are a few
regulations governing this type of employment; students may only work 20 hours
per week while school is in session but may work full-time during scheduled
vacations (i.e. Christmas and summer). This type of employment requires that
the student obtain a Social Security Number. To do this the student will need
to acquire a letter from the International Student Services Office.

10. What if my English isn’t good enough?
We recommend that you learn English in New York City with PALS. PALS is a
Christian non-profit Intensive English Program which equips students with
effective English communication skills for social, academic, and professional
success. Originally established by The King's College in 2000, the Program for
American Language Studies, Inc (PALS) is an independently incorporated entity
which still maintains an affiliation with the college.
