Why did you decide to come to The King’s College?
I prayed about it and was sure God was calling me here. I wanted to go to a school where I would learn how to influence people, how to write well, speak well, and think on my toes. I did not expect to find that in a Christian school. I was overwhelmed by their mission and their fulfillment of the mission. I saw both the mission and outstanding risk-takers in action at King’s when I visited. I wanted to be a part of it.
Have you been encouraged and challenged spiritually?
Yes, I have been challenged in and outside the classroom. New York City in itself is a classroom. We have the opportunity to put into practice what we learn every day by getting involved: by pursuing an internship and work, by speaking to people and sharing ideas. I am always encouraged spiritually because although New York City is a big classroom, King’s is a small one. I love coming back to “base” and sharing my thoughts and heart with students and friends. I have been challenged to look at God in a new way, to serve Him in ways I previously thought fruitless, to pursue excellence in all areas of life, and to not be afraid.
What opportunities have you had since living in New York City?
I interned with the World Journalism Institute, reporting for leading editors and journalists from across the nation. This included journalists from the Wall Street Journal, LA Times, National Review, First Things, CNN, FOX News and others. I work for WORLD magazine as an assistant to Editor-in-Chief Dr. Olasky. I have met many interesting people over the past few years: reporters, journalists, authors, politicians, physicists, and a vast array of professionals I continually meet at Socrates in the City. Movie stars have even come over my apartment to borrow eggs! There are countless opportunities to experience culture. The opportunities are there. You just have to grab them.
How have you been developed as a leader?
I have confidence to do things I never dreamed of. The King’s Debate Society has refined my speaking and debating skills. Working in areas of leadership has given me responsibility and courage to step out and step up. I have been challenged to do my best. They raise the bar, and we rise to it. They ask more of us, which I have come to expect, and appreciate. In the real world, no one is going to treat you like a child and neither does The King’s College.
What is your favorite book?
My favorite Books include as yet the Bible, Les Miserables, Pilgrim’s Progress, Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women, Nicomachean Ethics, Mere Christianity, Democracy in America, Stein on Writing, The Book of Cities, and selected essays from Descartes.
