Alumni E-Newsletter
February 2006
|
|
|
Dear Alumni,
We hope that this newsletter finds you in good
spirits and God-blessed. In this edition, we
will share the exciting news about Homecoming 2006,
explain what has recently transpired with the Blue
Lake Property, see how our curriculum compares to
other colleges in Bible and philosophy, plus King's
Collegiate sports are alive again.

President’s Words
This
new section is meant to share important issues that
affect our alumni, written from the Alumni
Association. This month we want to inform you of a
strategic decision made by The King's College Board
of Trustees. On February 3, 2004 the Board voted to
sell the property at Blue Lake. This was a strategic
decision because the property was not a long-term
solution to accomplishing the mission of King's. We are
pleased to announce that on February 7, 2006, the
property was officially sold. This strategic
decision has been supported by the Alumni
Association throughout the 2 year process. We are
now looking ahead as the college seeks to purchase
property in New York City. Your prayers are greatly
appreciated as this is an exciting yet challenging
process.
Sincerely,
Steve French, NBC

KEY ISSUES
It has been brought to our attention that many of our
alumni are unclear about the academic focus of the new
King’s College. One of the issues that may require
clarification is the misconception that there is not
enough focus on theology and the Bible in our curriculum
at King's. Throughout the next few weeks, we will be
highlighting some of the different concentrations our
students can study in to give you a clearer picture of
the education our students receive here. This edition
will focus on the PP&E (Politics, Philosophy and
Economics) Major.
Many great Christian colleges and universities have
required Bible and Philosophy courses that each student
must take regardless of major. Grove City College (PA)
requires students to take 6 humanities courses taught
from a Christian Worldview; of which only 2 are Bible
and philosophy courses. Cedarville University (OH)
requires 6 Bible courses and 0 Philosophy courses.
Wheaton College (IL) requires 4-6 Bible courses and 1
Philosophy course. According to our research of previous
transcripts from The King's College before it moved to
NYC, we discovered that on average, including all
electives not just the minimum required amount, King's
students took 6 Bible classes and between 1-2 Philosophy
classes.
Currently, the students
majoring in PP&E at The King’s College are required to
|
|
take a minimum of 6 Theology classes and 6 Philosophy
classes. We realize the importance of creating an
environment where our students will learn the Truth. We
want you, our alumni, to know with confidence that we
are not just preparing leaders to be clones of the
leaders already in the world, but solidly grounded
thinkers and believers of the Truth! |

King's
Sports |
 |
|
The
King's College has its first collegiate sports
program since re-opening in the Empire State
Building. The Men’s Basketball Team, coached by
Dale Scully, played their first game on October
22, 2005. They wrapped up their inaugural season
on February 13, 2006 in Brooklyn, NY. “This has
been a character growing inaugural season as our
record was 4-9. However, it is a huge step for the
future athletics of King’s” says Scully. A huge
stepping stone is the fact that Moses Sanchez, a
sophomore guard, was named the United States
Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) DII Player
of the Week in January. The Brooklyn native scored
a career high 31 points against Berkeley College
of New York City. Sanchez scored a total of 56
points, collected 18 rebounds and had 12 steals in
his two games that week.
Women’s basketball has just started practicing
this semester. We are looking forward to joining a
local basketball club in the city and playing
games starting in February. King’s also has a club
soccer team that has been playing in-door soccer
for 2 semesters and hopes to start playing
collegiate, outdoor soccer by next year. Sports
have always been a big part of King’s and NBC, and
we fully anticipate competing at the same level of
excellence. |

Correction:
Last month’s e-newsletter had a picture of the moose
head. That moose head is not the original one. It was a
gift presented to the college by Jim O’Bryan a few years
ago at Homecoming. We apologize for any confusion this
may have caused. |
