   Alumni E-Newsletter

May/June 2006

Dear Alumni,
The color of spring has bloomed to its fullest marking the end of another school year at The King's College. We pray that you’re enjoying the beauty of each day and are rejoicing in the fact that you no longer have to move a school year’s worth of dust out of resident housing. ElisaBeth Yoder, your new Alumni Representative, has enjoyed learning about the rich history of both King's and NBC. She is very excited to be taking up where Jordan left off and hopes she can serve you well.

In this edition, we’ll discover all that went on during graduation, pay tribute to someone who was very special to NBC alumni, learn about what students will be doing in Albania, and hear from Diane Ott ‘81 NBC. Homecoming is coming closer so remember to visit us at www.tkc.edu/alumni for news as well as bulletin board submissions and photo galleries!

Graduation

Dear Fellow Alumni,

It was my pleasure to be able to attend the 2006 Commencement ceremony at King’s the week-end of the 13th. I am happy to report that we have added 22 wonderful young people to the ranks of the alumni of the college. I would encourage any and all to join us next year in NYC for Commencement which is a time of true connection with your Alma Mater. There is nothing that can replace actually putting a face to these new graduates that are now King’s alums. During commencement we heard from Senator William Armstrong who gave a moving charge to the graduates to live well and honor Jesus with their lives. Kristen Redlinger, Valedictorian of the 2006 class, told all her fellow classmates, “I can’t believe we made it, we weathered the rigorous academics, and at the same time grew spiritually, emotionally and mentally.” It was evident that everyone from the administration and staff had great joy in seeing these students finish their studies well.

Every year for the past 4 years we have scheduled an Alumni Committee meeting for the morning of graduation so we can work through issues that pertain to the Alumni. We spent this session meeting with administration strategizing on how we can bring the most value to you, our Alumni. I want you to know, I am extremely encouraged by the progress we are making, and by the commitment this administration has made to the Alumni of both King's and Northeastern.

I came away from Commencement, more convinced than ever that the vision of Dr. Anderson and Percy Crawford continues to produce graduates committed to effecting the world for our Lord Jesus Christ.

Warmly,
Rick MillhamJr. ‘90
President, The King's College Alumni Association

A Tribute to Nancy Justnes
By: Susan Czarnecki ‘89 NBC

Nancy (Kristiansen) Justnes NBC ‘60 & ‘69 went home to be with the Lord on May 1, 2006 after battling leukemia.

Many Northeastern alumni remember Nancy as the anchor and glue that held them together between the time Northeastern closed in 1990 until the merge with King’s in 1999. She was a wonderful person who made it her mission to inform, care for and connect with many alumni.

I enjoyed working with her as she served on the Alumni Executive Committee as a decade representative. Nancy kept up with the lives and activities of many alumni no matter what year they graduated and always surprised me with her knowledge on the latest news about each alum.

We will all miss Nancy and admit she can not be replaced. I know that I owe her a wealth of gratitude.

Mission Trip to Albania
King's is sponsoring a summer mission trip to Albania. While there the team will be conducting worldview surveys with Albanian college students, using the results as a means of introducing them to Christ. In an effort to show collaboration, the King's mission team will be partnering with the Albanian Campus Crusade for Christ ministry, International team for campus outreach efforts.

In line with the College’s vision, students will be meeting with the nation’s business, economic, political and Church leaders. These leaders will be sharing their views with the team on historical and cultural issues shaping Albania. Other

opportunities the King's team will have include interviews on a nationally broadcasted youth radio program. By participating in this national dialog, King's students hope to understand and influence the relevant issues confronting Albania – as well as the spiritual, political and economic solutions.

In preparation for their journey, Lublin Dilja, of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Albania to the United Nations, addressed The King’s College. Mr. Dilja, who has served as a member of Albanian Parliament and as the Ambassador from Albania to Washington, D.C., spoke to students, faculty and staff. He talked about the political history and cultural development of Albania.

The Albania mission trip represents the realization of a long-term goal of the College – to interact with the spiritual, political and economic needs of a nation. This holistic approach is expected to introduce a new and effective approach for Christians toward global missions.

Lord I Choose To Keep My Eyes on You
By: Diane Ott ‘81 NBC

Lord, I choose to keep my eyes on You;
You’ll give me Your Grace to pull me through!

Though storms arise and distractions come,
Lord I thank you for all You have done!

You are the Lord---Your grace sustains me;
It puts my worries at ease!

Your Word makes my mountains fall;
It gives me strength to stand up sturdy
and tall.

Lord, I come to Your altar now;
At Your feet I humbly bow.

I ask You Lord to fill my cup to overflowing;
Let Your character in me be Radiant and Glowing!

Fill my cup Lord with Your Grace and Mercy;
Lord come now, for I am thirsty!

Oh Lord I give You thanks for everything
You’ve done;
With You always by my side, the VICTORY
has been Won!

*Diane is now serving as a missionary in Brazil*

Homecoming 2006
We look forward to seeing you again at the Empire State Building for Homecoming 2006. The day will be packed with fun events including the much anticipated annual soccer game. In the evening we’ll take a fabulous dinner cruise around New York Harbor to honor those who are celebrating Class Reunions. All class years are welcome. This will be a great time to meet with old friends and to take a look at what God has been doing with The King's College.
