   Alumni E-Newsletter

October 2006

Dear Alumni,

Homecoming 2006 has come and gone and former TKC and NBC classmates used the opportunity to reconnect after several years. Many of you are receiving this newsletter for the first time due to your overwhelming response to our alumni letter. We hope you will enjoy reading about alumni as well as what is happening today with The King's College.

In this edition, you will read an account of Homecoming from our new Alumni President Mrs. Lynn Albanese Mitchell ’86, learn how alumni are helping the College and finally, take a look at Homecoming 20 years ago. Be sure to check out our newly-launched website. In fact, how about adding this to your Website favorites list to keep up to date? It’s www.tkc.edu/advancement/alumni.

Homecoming 2006

October 7th was a beautiful day for a soccer game and dinner cruise around Manhattan. Once again, Coach Miller led our alumni soccer champs to a 5-1 victory over current students. The game was the most fun and most competitive game we have played to date. The fellowship and camaraderie were most rewarding. All who participated enjoyed the occasion and benefited from meeting the quality students being trained at TKC. We are always so thankful to Coach Miller and the players for making the trek to NYC! We ended the day by sailing off into the setting sun of New York Harbor aboard the Royal Princess. Alumni celebrating their 40th, 35th, 30th, 25th,

Alumni vs. Student Soccer Game

20th, and 15th year reunions enjoyed dinner, entertainment, and spectacular views while re-connecting with their classmates.

Congratulations to Jill Tompkins ’85 our distinguished 2006 Alumnus of the Year. We were thrilled to honor her for her many accomplishments and distinguished career as a Judge for Indian tribal courts and as a Professor of Clinical Law at the University of Colorado School of Law in Boulder. We also presented both President Stan Oakes and his wife Ginger with long overdue and greatly deserved Honorary Alumnus Awards.

President Stan Oakes and Lance Covan addressed the Alumni with exciting news about the future direction of the College, especially a new Alumni-funded scholarship that is being established in honor of Richard Hicks ’84 and his wife Charlene who were killed in March 2005 on the mission field in

Guyana.

We also heard from two TKC students, Amanda Pratt and Ted

Lynn Mitchell ’86, Rick Millham ’90 and
Alumnus of the Year Jill Tompkins ‘85

Pantone. Amanda gave us a report on a highly successful student missions trip to Albania this past summer, and Ted, Student Government President, gave us a glimpse of student life at TKC. We were also honored to have former professors Dr. Scott E. McClelland and Dr. June S. Hagen join us in the Student Lounge for an afternoon of book signing and reminiscing.

Finally, we are happy to announce the successful merger of the two separate Alumni Associations of The King’s College and Northeastern Bible College. There was a unanimous vote to amend the TKC Alumni Association Constitution to allow the two groups to become one. The new joint alumni association will retain TKC’s name. We are pleased to welcome NBC alumni Steve French and Michael Marrapod to The King’s College Alumni Executive Committee. Please be sure to visit the website, www.tkc.edu/advancement/alumni, for an update on the newly-elected officers or to post a message on the increasingly popular Alumni Bulletin Board. Looking

Alumni Hosts Reception

On September 19, alumni and current donors John Spier ’72 and his wife Doris ’72 hosted a Student Recruiting Reception at their home in Perkasie, PA. John, former President and Chief Executive Officer of Bucks County Bank and Trust, was happy to open his doors to students and parents from Plumstead Christian Academy. Alumnus Richard Kirk ’71 attended the reception with his daughter who is a senior in high school. During the reception students had an opportunity to meet staff from The King's College as well as hear President Stan Oakes speak on the vision of TKC. Jane Anderson, an Admissions Counselor for the college said “the reception was a great example of how the Admissions Department and Alumni can work together to recruit outstanding students for years to come.”

New Website
It is with great pleasure that we announce the launch of our significantly improved website at www.tkc.edu.

The pages are straightforward and include communication from all departments of the college to prospective students, current students, friends, alumni, and parents.

Take time to check out the website created to better serve you!

Homecoming 20 Years Ago...
Taken from the TKC 1987 Yearbook

Even the weather was favorable for the celebration of Homecoming ’86 as the alumni returned to renew old friendships and relive old memories. The crisp autumn air and the brilliant sunshine contributed to the festive atmosphere of the second weekend of October.

Beginning with a series of alumni chapels during the week preceding Homecoming, students quickly got involved in such activities as the new banner display contest (won by the Senior Class) and the Queen Competition (won by Kelly Sue Brubaker ’89 with Gretchen Lee ’87 as first runner-up and Marion Gerard ’88 as second runner-up). The TKC athletic teams added to everyone’s enjoyment by defeating all the competition (including the alumni teams) in men’s and women’s basketball games, field hockey, cross country, and soccer. Steve and Maria Gardner presented a concert on Saturday night that will be remembered with joy by all who attended. And the weekend closed with
Sunday morning worship and a message by John Ankerberg, Christian TV talk show host and son-in-law of 1986 Alumnus of the Year Award recipient Neil Macaulay ’45.

Homecoming ’86 was a time for proving that “Friends are Friends Forever.”
