Women's Soccer 2-2 After Second Weekend of Play
After losing their first game of the season on Saturday 9/7 followed by a win the very next day last weekend up at the Albany Pharmacy Tournament, the Lady Lions found themselves much closer to home this weekend. On Friday 9/13 they traveled up to SUNY-Maritime on the edge of the scenic Long Island Sound. With two early mistakes, TKC was down 0-2 in the first two minutes. Then they settled down, played much more organized soccer and generated plenty of scoring chances, but could not find the back of the net. The game ended with TKC losing 0-2 and their record dropped to 1-2. But they were right back at it again on Saturday, this time hosting Briarcliffe College at Randall's Island. TKC had the edge in total chances but after 70 minutes the scored remained 0-0. Finally center midfielder and captain Erika Hilliard found freshman Genesis Castrellon alone in the box. Castrellon had two near-misses earlier in the game and had also hit the post. She would not be denied this time and put it away for her second goal of the season, and second game winning goal for TKC who evened their record to 2-2. Captain Annalise Bourgeoise, filling in for injured goalkeeper Victoria McAlister, played the complete game in net posting the victory and the shutout, firsts of her collegiate career. The Lady Lions defense of freshman Ariel Mouser, Jordan Olson, junior Caroline Craddock and Hilliard were solid in their end.
