TKC Picks Up First Conference Win
On Saturday 9/21 the Lady Lions defeated the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons 4-0 in a home game at Randall's Island. Freshman Genesis Castrellon (last week's HVIAC Rookie of the Week) opened the scoring just 4 minutes into the game with a brilliant stepover move on the endline before firing a shot to the near post. This proved to be the game winning goal as King's improved to 3-2. Genesis had another goal and two assists in the game, and took 11 shots. She is the conference leader in total shots and shots on goal and has the game winning goal in each of the three TKC wins this season. Caitlin Essex had a strong game taking 10 shots and picking up her second goal of the season and freshman Jordan Olson notched her second goal, off a corner kick from Castrellon. The Lions defense was strong with their second straight shutout behind the defense of captains Erika Hilliard and Annalise Bourgeois and Ariel Mouser. Freshmen Kasey Sisson and Voleak Sroeung provided strong work on the outside midfield. Victoria McAlister made 7 saves in picking up the shutout. The victory marked the teams first win as new members of the Hudson Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference and improved their conference record to 1-1.
