Lions End Season With Victory
10/19/13 Lions End Season With Victory
The Lions Men's Soccer Team traveled to Valley Forge Christian in PA on Saturday for their season finale. Things did not look well in the beginning as the Lions found themselves down 1-0 just five minutes into the game. But TKC settled down and started to take control of the match. They outshot the Patriots 8-2 in the first half. The last shot found its way into the back of the net with just 3 seconds left in the first half as Trey Carlton slammed a shot off the crossbar and Peter Flemming was there to put in the rebound. The Lions came out hungry in the second half and just eight minutes in, Connor Christiansen took the ball himself and beat the keeper for a 2-1 lead. The score remained 2-1 with TKC leading for most of the second half, so the atmosphere was tense although TKC did own a 14-2 advantage in shots. WIth under two minutes remaining in the games Zach Adams took a pass from Robert DeWitt and buried a goal for a 3-1 lead to seal the game. DeWitt was also solid as the first half goalkeeper with Carlos Santos stepping in and blanking the Patriots in the second half. Defensively Mark Gonska, Isaiah Contu-Owen, Noah Schiers and Trey Carlton limited Valley Forge to just four shots in the game. MIke Medeiros, Veassna Sang and Amir Tolbert provided speed and energy to the offense. The Lions ended their season winning two of their last three games and battling conference leader, Berkeley, in a tough loss. The team will have an Alumni Game on Saturday November 9 at Chelsea Piers.
