Lady Lions Fall Short to Albany Pharmacy in HVIAC Conference Final
Junior Maxine Fileta (Huntington Beach, CA) put TKC ahead early when she took a pass from sophomore Caitlin Essex (Dallas, TX) and placed it inside the left post 13 minutes into the game. It was the first time all season that Albany Pharmacy found themselves trailing in a conference game. Essex had taken a corner kick which was partially cleared, but when the ball ended up back at her feet, she found Fileta open in the middle of the penalty area. It was Fileta's first goal of the season and the tenth assist for Essex. The Panther's Francis Ripepi would strike for two goals later in the half, and Albany Pharmacy took a 2-1 lead into halftime. They would extend the lead to 3-1 just 3 minutes into the second half as Jen Bechard found a loose ball off a corner kick. Despite better possession and ball movement in the second half and desperate effort in the last five minutes, the Lady Lions could not solve the Panther's defense. Caroline Craddock did rifle a shot just over the crossbar with a minute left but the clock expired with TKC on the short end of a 3-1 game. Victoria McAlister was spectacular in goal making 11 saves for TKC and keeping the team within striking distance for the entire game.
