Presidential Scholarship
The President’s Scholarship is awarded to incoming students on the basis
of their composite ACT/SAT score and cumulative high school GPA. If a student
does not have a high school transcript exceptions are made by the Admissions
Committee and consideration is given to students who have successfully
completed their GED. Students transferring to The King’s College are also
eligible for the Presidential Scholarship based on their cumulative college
GPA and number of credit hours completed. Students are required to
remain in academic “Good Standing” in order to maintain their President’s
Scholarship.
Founders’ Scholarship
The King’s College is awarding four scholarships amounting up to the full
cost of tuition to students who embody the combination of leadership and
academic skills that the College highly values. The Founders’ Scholarship is
awarded through a competitive process that includes essay and presentation
components. To be considered for the scholarship, students must submit a five
to seven page essay on a specific prompt, visit the campus and give a three to
five minute speech, and participate in a leadership exercise during the
on-campus visit.
For details and guidelines on how to participate, open the
Founders’
Scholarship Guidelines document. Feel free to direct any specific
questions to your admissions representative.
Here is an example of a
winning essay and
speech from last year's competition.
The King’s Grant
The King’s Grant is awarded to students who demonstrate need. Completion of
a financial aid application (FAFSA) is required in order to be considered
for this grant. The King’s Grant is awarded at the discretion of the Office
of Financial Aid. The grant is a one year award with future consideration
given upon receipt of financial aid applications in subsequent years.
Federal Aid (More information available at
www.studentaid.ed.gov)
PELL Grant
A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid. Pell
Grants are considered a foundation of federal financial aid, to which aid from
other federal and nonfederal sources might be added.
The maximum Pell Grant award for the 2012-13 award year (July 1, 2012 to
June 30, 2013) is $5,550. The maximum can change each award year and depends
on program funding. The amount you get, though, will depend not only on your
financial need, but also on your costs to attend school, your status as a
full-time or part-time student, and your plans to attend school for a full
academic year or less.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) program is
for undergraduates with exceptional financial need. Pell Grant recipients with
the lowest expected family contributions (EFCs) will be considered first for a
FSEOG. Just like Pell Grants, the FSEOG does not have to be repaid.
Direct Loan Program
Direct Subsidized Stafford: A subsidized loan is awarded on the basis of financial
need. The borrower is not responsible for the interest while in an
in-school, grace, or deferment status. Depending on your financial need, you
may borrow subsidized money for an amount up to the annual loan borrowing
limit for your level of study (see
www.studentloans.gov).
Direct Unsubsidized Stafford: You might be able to borrow loan funds beyond your
subsidized loan amount even if you don't have demonstrated financial need.
In that case, you'd receive an unsubsidized loan. Your school will subtract
the total amount of your other financial aid from your cost of attendance to
determine whether you're eligible for an unsubsidized loan. Unlike a
subsidized loan, you are responsible for the interest from the time the
unsubsidized loan is disbursed until it's paid in full.

Direct Parent PLUS: Parents can borrow a PLUS Loan to help pay your education
expenses if you are a dependent undergraduate student enrolled at least half
time in an eligible program at an eligible school. They also must have an
acceptable credit history. The yearly limit on a PLUS Loan is equal to your
cost of attendance minus any other financial aid you receive. (See
www.studentloans.gov for more
information).
Payment Plans
The King’s College has an affiliation with Tuition Management Systems (TMS),
which provides our students and families with a no-interest, monthly payment
plan. You pay only a small enrollment fee to participate in the program. Visit
www.afford.com/kings for more
information.
Alternative Student Loans
Alternative loans are available when grants, scholarships and federal
student loans do not cover your cost of education. The King’s College works
closely with the lenders below, but is glad to work with any loan program you
wish to utilize.
New York State
Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
TAP helps eligible New York residents pay tuition at approved schools in New
York State. Depending on the academic year in which you begin study, an annual
TAP award can be up to $5,000. Because TAP is a grant, it does not have to be
paid back. For more information and eligibility requirements, visit the TAP
website at www.hesc.com.
