Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee to visit King’s
NEW YORK, March 24, 2009—Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will address King’s students on Friday, March 27 at 12:15 pm. The event is closed to the public.
King’s College Provost Marvin Olasky will interview Huckabee for the first 30 minutes, after which the former governor will field questions. Huckabee’s visit coincides with Inviso, the college’s visit weekend, giving prospective students the opportunity to take part in the event.
Huckabee, 53, is the former governor of Arkansas. He became one of the youngest governors in the country in July 1996 when his predecessor resigned. In 1998, he was elected to a full, four-year term, attracting the largest percentage of the vote ever received by a Republican gubernatorial nominee in Arkansas, and was re-elected in November 2002.
A significant part of Huckabee’s early adult life was spent as Baptist minister. He became the youngest president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, the largest denomination in Arkansas, and pastored in Pine Bluff and Texarkana, AR.
In 2008, he finished second to John McCain in his quest for the Republican presidential nomination. He now runs HuckPac, an organization that assists Republicans running for office nationwide and hosts the number one rated weekend show “Huckabee” on the Fox News Channel. He is also heard three times daily across the nation on the "Huckabee Report" on the ABC Radio Network.
The author of six books, Huckabee’s most recent work, Do the Right Thing, spent seven weeks in the top ten of the New York Times Bestseller list.
Huckabee is also an avid musician. He is the bass player in his rock-n-roll band, Capitol Offense, which has opened for artists such as Willie Nelson and the Charlie Daniels Band, and has played the House of Blues in New Orleans, the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, CO, and for two presidential inauguration balls.
Huckabee and his wife, Janet, live in North Little Rock. They have three grown children: John Mark, David and Sarah.
The King’s College is located in the Empire State Building in New York City.
