The King’s College Receives Regional Accreditation

(November 19, 2009) NEW YORK--The King’s College has been granted regional accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) at its Nov. 19, 2009, meeting.

“This marks a significant step for the College,” interim president Andy Mills said. “We are thankful to the Middle States Commission.”

The Commission’s decision was based on the recommendation of a seven-member site visit team chaired by Dr. John White, President Emeritus of Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Penn. The team spent several days on campus in September evaluating the College. Their examination was based on the College’s self-study, the culmination of a five-year effort led by Jody Tattar who has served as Accreditation Liaison Officer since 2004.

“It’s an important moment for the staff, faculty members, and students who worked on our self-study,” said Brian Parker, Vice President for Admissions, who served as the co-chair of the self-study steering committee with Professor Robert Jackson.

Tattar explained, “The College had to demonstrate that we meet the Commission’s 14 Standards of Excellence. These standards cover everything, including our mission and goals, financial condition, resources and planning, leadership and governing board, integrity, administrative effectiveness, recruiting and admissions practices, student support services, faculty, general education and degree programs, and student learning outcomes.”

Provost Marvin Olasky said, “It shows that our education offerings display academic content, rigor, and coherence that are appropriate to our mission.”

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is a voluntary, non-governmental, membership association that defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence across institutions with diverse missions, student populations, and resources. The Commission is dedicated to quality assurance and improvement through accreditation via peer evaluation. Middle States accreditation instills public confidence in institutional mission, goals, performance, and resources through its rigorous accreditation standards and their enforcement.
