NEW YORK, August 29, 2012—Students at The King’s College began their first day of classes in the new, downtown campus of The King’s College. Over 600 students descended on the Financial District to take courses in politics, philosophy, economics, business, Biblical literature and the arts.
In the days leading up to the start of classes on Wednesday, students participated in a variety of events with House members, including the Great Race (a massive New York City scavenger hunt), the annual House dinner, and more.
The new campus delivers many benefits to incoming students, including more classrooms, a larger computer lab, an art room, street level access, and a 3rd floor café. Students also gain the benefit of learning in a truly historic environment, next to the New York Stock Exchange, Federal Hall, the 9/11 Memorial, Battery Park and more.
Heather Cate, a student leader at The King’s College, said “The new campus feels bigger and more spacious in the hallways. I’m so excited about this move!” Another student, sophomore Stefani Gardner, observed that “You can see that everyone worked hard to make it great and all the details show how God wants to use this campus for big things.”
And though students are learning in different classrooms, the mission remains. Dean of Students David Leedy writes that “much remains the same: our mission; our rigorous curriculum; our excellent faculty; our Houses; our dress code; the honor system. The pulse of the College is unchanged. As we enter a new era of The King’s College, we are more committed than ever to strengthening the King’s experience.
In the next few days, students will be gearing up for their initial assignments and attending the Convocation ceremony at Calvary St. George’s Church.
The King’s College educates students in the ideas upon which nations rise and fall. With a focused curriculum in the liberal arts tradition, students are prepared to help shape, and eventually to lead, the institutions of government, civil society, media, law, business, education, the arts, and the church. King’s is a Christian college located in New York City.
