The King's College Republicans Host Tea Party Strategist

On Friday, September 28th, The King's College Republicans hosted Michael Prell, a strategist for Tea Party Patriots. Prell spoke to students on "Branding and Communication for a Conservative Audience."

Jeremy Cerone (PPE '13), Chairman of The King's College Republicans, chose the topic for the event because it is applicable to all degrees offered by the College.

Michael Prell is an accomplished political writer, having published more than 30 million pieces of campaign literature. He has also worked under political names like Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper. Today, Prell works with Tea Party Patriots. According to the official website, "Tea Party Patriots is a national grassroots organization that exists to serve and support the thousands of local organizations and millions of grassroots Patriots throughout our nation." They provide "logistical, educational, networking and other support" to thousands of tea party groups across the country.

During his lecture, Prell highlighted seven rules of effective communication: know your audience, conduct research, communicate with brevity, show the impact, explain benefits and consequences, use contrast, and highlight the goal or desired action.

Afterward, Prell praised the Romney campaign for keeping his focus on conservative voters, instead of focusing on independents. Prell's criticism came down squarely on the state of national debate today. "There aren't even issues being discussed," Prell said, encouraging students to become persuasive communicators of important philosophic ideas.
