Anne Hendershott on controlling population and public education
Through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. Gates have donated billions of dollars to charitable causes in education and health around the world, earning them praise from Democrats, Republicans, and the mass media. But the Gates’ have also used their donations to advance contraceptives and population control. And now, writes Anne Hendershott, Distinguished Visiting Professor of Public Affairs, Bill and Melinda Gates are attempting to control public education through a standardized national curriculum.
In "The Ambitions of Bill and Melinda Gates: Controlling Population and Public Education,” Hendershott warns that, working with the Obama administration,
“the Gates Foundation subsidized the creation of a national curriculum for English and mathematics that has now been adopted by 46 states, and the District of Columbia—despite the fact that the General Education Provisions Act, the Department of Education Organization Act, and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act all protect states against such an intrusion by the United States Department of Education.”
And while the 46 States voluntarily adopted the Common Core, “it was well understood by these states that they would not be eligible for Race to the Top funding ($4.35 billion) unless they adopted the Common Core standards. The Gates Foundation was very much a part of this.”
Additionally, the new education standards were imposed “without any field testing, and little or no input from those involved in implementing the standards.”
What is perhaps most worrisome, however, is the content of the standards. The new Common Core mandates that English teachers focus on “fact-based” literature, raising the question of who determines what “fact-based” means. In one teacher’s experience, focusing on “fact-based” literature meant one teacher giving up on teaching Shakespeare “ in favor of Malcolm Gladwell’s Tipping Point because it was “fact-based” and Shakespeare was not.”
“Of course,” Hendershott writes, “Tipping Point has a political agenda.”
Unfortunately, Mr. and Mrs. Gates seem intent on controlling world population growth by promoting artificial contraception, sterilization, and abortion through public education.
