President Mills Letter to Students
As you know we are flat out in the middle of the recruiting season for Fall 2013. The results so far are promising, but there is still a long way to go in the process.
We are communicating frequently to the prospective and deposited students, to keep them informed of news from the school, as well as reinforcing our message – the value proposition of a King’s education if you will.
I thought that it would be useful for me to share with you my latest note to them which makes the case for a King’s education.
Why? So that you can see how we are positioning the school, but also to remind you of why being at King’s is an excellent investment in your life, and to encourage you to persevere in your own careers here.
So here below is the body of my letter:
“I'd simply like to make the case for King's, and ask you to come join us. We build King's on a foundation of four pillars that, when taken together, make King's unique. There is simply no other college that offers what we do.
These pillars are:
1) King's is unashamedly Christian. We stand on the truths of God, Jesus and the Bible. This truth infuses everything we do.
2) King's offers a carefully crafted Core Curriculum which means you will grapple with the ideas that shape nations and history and be educated to the highest standards of college learning. In addition, we offer relevant majors that will prepare you for the life that follows.
3) King's is committed to helping you grow as a person. Life at the College and in New York City is vibrant, with opportunities for spiritual and personal growth and the exercise of leadership.
4) King's is purposefully located in New York City - the leading city of the world. Here you will engage with the brightest and best - most of whom will have a different worldview! Great internships are commonplace, and good jobs follow. This is the place to exercise your faith and learning and begin to shape the world.
No other college in the world offers this combination.
The result will be that you will graduate as a highly capable person. You will be well educated, trained in the big ideas and the technical skills necessary in your first job. You will have grown personally and spiritually, know how to live in New York City and have experienced a number of great internships, with the high likelihood of a good job, or admission to a prestigious graduate school following graduation.
Exciting? You bet. But also of very high value in moving you along the path that God has for you.
We're looking for a great new class of talented and ambitious students who want to begin this journey together. Come be one of them.”
Thanks for being here, building your own lives and helping us shape The King’s College.
