The King’s College Announces New Student Body President

NEW YORK—The King’s College is pleased to announce the election of Matthew Fillingame, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz., as the student body president for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Fillingame secured 70 percent of the vote in a run-off election last month after none of the three candidates received the “50 percent plus one” needed to be named the winner in the initial election. The top two candidates then squared off in a special election with Fillingame securing well over the required number of votes.

Fillingame’s passion for the college originated while competing in the Founder’s Scholarship competition during his senior year of high school.

“I was so impressed by the other students competing and the students running the event,” Fillingame said. “I realized that I wanted to learn sitting next to those people.”

He eventually won the competition and came to King’s in the fall of 2005. Since then, he has held numerous leadership positions, including Scholar and President of the House of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, served on the leadership council for the college’s worship organization, The Tent, and currently works as an Admissions Counselor in the school’s Admissions Department.

Last summer, he married his high school sweetheart and fellow King’s classmate, Laurie (Mizioch) Fillingame. He becomes the sixth student body president of The King’s College—New York City.

The King’s College is a Christian liberal arts college located in the Empire State Building in New York City.
