Law Schools Compete for King's Graduate

Alexandra Harrison headed for University of Texas

NEW YORK, May 14, 2012—Alexandra Harrison was not always set on attending law school. Early in her King's career, she developed an interest in economics. During her senior year, however, she realized that her interest in economics stemmed from examining cause and effect relationships. With a new appreciation for law, Harrison decided to take the LSAT and apply to a range of programs.

After months of hard studying, Harrison took the LSAT and waited for the results. She scored a 169, which placed her in the 97th percentile, and law programs noticed. She was accepted to Georgetown Law with a substantial scholarship, Regent University, and also to University of Texas, Austin with scholarship. Harrison initially decided to go with #13 ranked Georgetown, but the University of Texas, Austin made a competitive counter-offer with significantly higher scholarship money.

Harrison said that her King’s education played a significant role in her success. “Writing well, critical thinking skills, and being able to grasp a difficult text very quickly were all very helpful during the LSAT,” she said. Harrison also explained that her freshman logic class developed her ability to break down complex arguments with ease.

Harrison’s involvement in extra-curricular activities during her time at King’s has also helped prepare her for law school. She said that “Serving for two years in leadership in the house system taught me a lot about relationships and time management.” During her time at King’s she also worked in multiple departments of the College, which Harrison says has helped her understand how large systems work and how individuals fit into them.

Law school at University of Texas, Austin, will be no simple task. Harrison explained that the first year of law school is traditionally very challenging. Still, she says, she is confident that she will succeed because of the tools gained through her King's education.
