John Lennox Announced as Presidential Scholar

Does Science Point to God?

NEW YORK, August 28, 2012—The King’s College is pleased to announce that Dr. John Lennox will be visiting our campus in New York City as part of our Presidential Scholars Program. Dr. John Lennox, an acclaimed Christian apologist and colleague of Richard Dawkins at Oxford, will present a lecture entitled “Does Science Point to God?” The lecture, which is open to the public, will be followed by a question & answer session moderated by King’s President Dinesh D’Souza.

In addition to boasting one of the finest liberal arts faculties in America, The King's College also brings today's finest thinking to our campus in New York City through an elite team of Presidential Scholars. Scholars engage the public square through media appearances and debates, while mentoring students. Past Scholars include Alvin Plantinga, Wayne Grudem, John Stossel, Stephen Barr, Brian Wesbury, Dallas Willard and Benjamin Wiker.

“Our nation is embroiled in many crises that are—at their roots—intellectual, moral, and spiritual. We need statesmen and stateswomen who will defend timeless truths against the aggression of the new atheism and the radical secularism that we see in society today,” said Dinesh D’Souza, President of The King’s College.

John Lennox is Professor of Mathematics in the University of Oxford, Fellow in Mathematics and the Philosophy of Science, and Pastoral Advisor at Green Templeton College, Oxford. He is also an adjunct Lecturer at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University and at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics and is a Senior Fellow of the Trinity Forum. In addition, he teaches for the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme at the Executive Education Centre, Said Business School, Oxford University.

He has written a number of books on the interface between science, philosophy and theology. These include "God's Undertaker: Has Science Buried God?" (2009), "God and Stephen Hawking", a response to "The Grand Design" (2011), "Gunning for God", on the new atheism (2011), and "Seven Days that Divide the World", on Genesis 1 (2011). He has lectured extensively in North America, Eastern and Western Europe on mathematics, the philosophy of science and the intellectual defense of Christianity.

He debated Richard Dawkins on "The God Delusion" in the University of Alabama (2007) and on "Has Science buried God?" in the Oxford Museum of Natural History (2008). He has also debated Christopher Hitchens on the New Atheism (Edinburgh Festival, 2008) and the question of "Is God Great?" (Samford University, 2010), as well as Peter Singer on the topic of "Is there a God?" (Melbourne, 2011).
