Lady Lions Give to Charity
Team raises money and awareness for breast cancer and Africa
In the month of October, the Lady Lions focused their teamwork and energy on off-field charitable projects. They raised money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and also put together a package for a boys’ soccer team in Africa.
Below are the official announcements from the athletics program at King’s:

The Lady Lions Women's Soccer Team Recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Women's Soccer Team at The King's College held a tee shirt sale in October, hoping to accomplish two objectives. First, to promote school spirit by offering the tee shirts, which have a King's Athletics design, to all students, faculty, fellow athletes, friends and relatives. They also wanted to support a charitable cause. One color combination offered had a pink design, which comes on either a gray or navy blue shirt. A portion of the proceeds from this sale was donated to breast cancer research.
Coach Bryan Finley said, "So many of us have had friends and family affected by cancer. With October being breast cancer awareness month, as well as being such a big month in the schedule of a soccer team, the girls thought it would be a great idea to try to promote school spirit while also raising money for such a worthy cause. We're hoping it is a success, so we can do something similar every October." Senior Captain Amanda Sanderson (Houston, TX) added, "My aunt just received treatment for breast cancer and is doing really well. This fundraiser is great because not only will it directly help in saving the lives of those with breast cancer, but it will also help their loved ones. It gives them hope, and that's a powerful thing."
Lady Lions Soccer Team Provides Gear for a Team in Africa
In November, the Lady Lions Soccer Team is putting together a sports equipment package for a high-school age boys' soccer team in Africa. The project is being coordinated by sophomore Bethany Hennigh, a graduate of Rift Valley Academy in Tanzania. The Lady Lions are providing uniforms, practice vests, and soccer balls for the entire team. The shipment of equipment is expected to be sent by the end of the month.
