First House Fundraiser a Success

House executive teams blaze a new trail

In early December of last year, the ten Houses at The King’s College launched their first online fundraiser aimed at funding new initiatives in 2013. Between December 1st 2012 and January 1st 2013, over 100 friends, alumni, and parents donated to Houses, for a total of over $8,000 raised. The fundraiser was matched by a generous donor, and was so successful that the fundraiser was extended to February 1st.

Houses that made special efforts to personally reach out to core constituencies were the most successful.

The House of Corrie ten Boom, for example, was an unlikely success story. A little over two years old, the House had few alumni to reach out to. Still, they found that by focusing on personal appeals to generous friends, they were able to dramatically exceed their goal.

Christina Morgan, President of ten Boom said that “The time and effort put into our fundraising campaign was a wise investment. By personally contacting our alumni and seeking donors outside of our alumni base, we were able to not only reach but actually exceed our goal!”

House alumni are happy about the new fundraising capability too. Matthew Kaal, an alumnus of The House of Bonhoeffer said he is excited to see other alumnus staying involved and investing in the community. “I'm thrilled that our house surpassed its fundraising goal,” Kaal said, “but I also see this annual effort as an opportunity to really look at how the college engages alumni and tries to keep us involved year round."

The Houses are currently planning their next fundraising initiatives to be announced in the upcoming months.
