Dear Parents,

I can hardly believe we’re halfway through September. That means the new campus is buzzing with activity. It also means that Homecoming and the annual Parents Weekend is just around the corner with great opportunities for parents, alumni, and students to enjoy good food, faculty lectures, the homecoming soccer game, and more. For more information, check out the “Upcoming Events” page on the TKC website.

If you would like to keep up with life at The King’s College, “like” our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. And for more information about how you can stay up-to-date, visit the “Staying Informed” link on the Parent Pages.

I look forward to meeting you at Parents Weekend.

Best,
Eric Bennett
Vice President For Student Life

Q&A with the President of The House of Ronald Reagan

Soccer

The House of Ronald Reagan is one of ten houses at The King’s College. The House of Reagan “equips and encourages members to be God fearing men of integrity who take calculated risks while persevering in pursuit of a significant life.”

The mission is inspired by Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States and now a hero of American Conservatism. During his time as president, Reagan displayed remarkable moral clarity in his public assessment of the Soviet Union as an “evil empire,” and also audacity in his implementation of supply-side economic policies.

Get a Glimpse of Student Life at King's!

As part of our mission to better serve all those connected with The King's College, we have begun using the popular photo sharing platform Instagram to give those not currently at King's a better idea of what life at King's is like.

So, instead of taking as many pictures as we can, we have encouraged students to take their own photos and submit them to the Instagram tag #tkcnyc. The result is a currently a small album of candid photos showing students enjoying House dinners, House date nights, studying, exploring the new campus, and more.

Do you use instagram? Is there any type of photos you want to see more of? Reply to this email and let Advancement know. And be sure to follow us on Instagram @thekingscollege.

Burk Ohbayashi Selected as New Debate Coach

OhbayashiThe King’s College is pleased to announce that Burk Ohbayashi (King’s ’12) will be joining the King’s staff as Interim Coach for The King’s Debate Society. Ohbayashi will work as a part-time coach, leading the Society in efforts to improve their skill at British Parliamentary debate—and spearheading the search for a full-time coach.

Burk has long been a faithful member of The King’s Debate Society. In 2008, he was one of the first team members to place in the top ten speakers at a regional tournament. Over the next three years, he became one of the best debaters in the Northeast, regularly breaking into quarterfinal, semifinal, and final rounds—most recently placing 16th overall, with his partner Josiah Peterson (King's '12), in the United States World Format Debating Championships. He has continually invested in the Society, serving as Novice Trainer in the 2011-12 season and imparting the vision of KDS to new debaters. He is the last remaining member of the founding cohort of the Society.

Parent Prayer Calendar

Please continue to join us in prayer for the following the in the month of September...

For the Administration:
Pray that Dr. Newton, our new provost, would acclamate to King's well, and that staff, faculty, and administration would continue to rally around him as he takes a leadership role at the College.

For Students:
That God would sustain them as they continue to work hard in their studies. Also, that God would guide them in placing them in churches that they can commit to attending.
