HonorCicero aptly taught that “ability without honor is useless.”
The King’s educational experience is founded upon honor. Our Honor Code
expresses the minimum standard to which every member of the community commits:
“A student of The King's College will not lie, cheat, steal, or turn a
blind eye to those who do. Every student is honor bound to confront any other
student who breeches the Honor Code.”
Under-girding this code is the timeless principle of honor. The Code
prohibits deception; honor embraces truthfulness in all human relations. The
Code forbids cheating; honor calls for complete fairness and justice. The Code
prohibits theft; honor requires the utmost respect for the person and property
of others.
We do not manage behavior through a lengthy list of prohibitions. Rather, we
believe that honor leads to noble actions. We call members of the College to
know what’s right, count the cost, and do what’s required. And while we don’t
demand moral perfection, we do expect members of our community to learn from
failures, and to grow as men and women of honor.
The King’s College is a community of honor, not merely a collection of
individuals. The actions of one affect us all. Therefore, we commit to
confronting breeches of honor in our midst. In a society that exalts tolerance
as the highest of virtues, we know we’re bucking cultural norms. But the
Christian ethic of love calls us to a higher standard.
This is The King’s College – you should expect nothing less.
“The Honor Code is always there to remind us of proper conduct and is
there to keep us accountable to ourselves and to those around us. It gives us
the opportunity to set honorable standards for ourselves with the Honor Code as
a guide. I've been able to challenge myself to live out true honor.” – TKC
