House Competition

Welcome to the House Competition!

All House members have the opportunity to compete against other Houses in the House Competition. The competitive events throughout the school year encourage the members to work together as a team.

The Competition challenges you:

To work as a team. Leadership is more than what you do as an individual. Leaders help the team win. In today's individualistic society, few learn to be high performing members of a high performing team. The Competition encourages you to do just that. You must deny selfish desires, work through conflict, and help each another be the best you can be.

To pursue excellence. In a competitive world, those who strive for excellence move ahead. Mediocrity—as an individual and as a team—equals failure. The Competition is a context in which you learn to excel together. In each event, you’ll need to size up your competitors, discern how to maximize your team strengths, and organize yourselves for peak performance.

To know yourself. “Know Thyself” is more than an ancient Greek dictum. It’s a principle of life. Knowing yourself is foundational to fulfilling all you were meant to accomplish in this world. Through the Competition (and other parts of your House experience) you come to better understand your personality, weaknesses, leadership style, as well as what you have to offer that adds value to those around you. As you act upon this insight, you maximize who you are for the greater good of others.

The Competition isn’t just about winning or losing. It’s about growing as an individual and as a group. As this occurs, you’ll become a higher performing team - and be better prepared to influence the institutions that shape society.
