Drama Competition

Event Date: September 15, 2012

The objective of this event is to script and perform an outstanding drama based upon some variation of the theme of “Duty.”

Rules

  • Each House will have up to six minutes for their performance.
  • The theme of the drama should center on some aspect of the concept of “Duty” (Houses have freedom to determine the specificity of the drama theme and content, provided there is an intuitive relationship with the broader idea of Duty).
  • A minimum of 75% of first-year House members and the Helmsmen must participate in the drama. A House may incorporate other upperclassmen as desired.
  • Optional: The House may base their drama on a movie clip of their choice. The clip must be no longer than sixty seconds. The House is responsible for its own video setup and technician.
  • Each House must bring their own props.

Judging

  • A panel of judges will consist of faculty and staff.
  • The panel will use the following criteria for judging performances:
    • Theme: Clarity, quality and relation to idea of “Duty”
    • Substance: Thoughtfulness and significance of content
    • Creativity
    • Quality of acting
    • Incorporation of all first-year team members
  • Ten points will be deducted from the final score for every thirty seconds a House goes over the five minute time limit.
  • Houses will be penalized for excessive sarcasm or unedifying content. Each judge will have the authority to deduct up to three points. Penalty points will be deducted from the total score (e.g. If House scores 88 on their performance, and two out of four judges deduct two points, the final score becomes 84).

Awards
Houses will receive points according to the Major Event scale.
