American foreign policy since 9/11 has devolved to the point that the face of U.S. diplomacy to the world has devolved into two general categories: a) a series of forever-wars in which no combat deployments end, and 2) the application of progressively coercive measures employed against major powers designed to compel submission to U.S. preferences. Together, these two components of American foreign policy are causing increasing harm to our interests, both domestically and globally. If we are to reverse this decades-long degradation, the in-coming Biden Administration must make substantial, fundamental changes: America desperately needs a foreign and military policy makeover.

Eleventh Hour in 2020 America is divided into three sections: 1) how we got to this military-first point, 2) a boots-on-the-ground examination for why I argue our current policies are futile (by including vignettes on my combat experience in Desert Storm and post-9/11 Afghanistan and Iraq campaigns); and 3) a recommendation for what a new policy might look like. The key is to take the world as it is, not as we’d like it to be, and demonstrate superior and less costly policy alternatives.

This book helps the American public understand that in large measure their gut instincts are right – polls consistently say upwards of 75% of the population want forever-wars to end. But it also provides a roadmap for the Biden Administration to adopt to stop the damage done over the past 20 years and set a course for a sustainable, successful future: reality-based policies which can make us safer, expand our economic opportunities, and cost us less to produce.
I am particularly grateful for the opportunity to talk to America’s rising generation because you will be the ones either saddled with the wreckage if we don’t change course – or the beneficiaries if we turn things around. I will suggest some ways John Quincy Adams Society members can take action and be part of the solution. To join virtually, CLICK HERE
