Chelsea Matiash is an adjunct professor specializing in visual journalism. She is a staff senior editor for digital storytelling at The New York Times and holds a seat on the board of the Newswomen’s Club of New York. Previously, she was the senior photo editor at The Intercept, deputy editor for multimedia at TIME Magazine and a photo editor at The Wall Street Journal and at The Associated Press. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Miami, where she was editor in chief of The Miami Hurricane. She holds certifications in editing, product management and video production.

Chelsea served on the executive board of directors at the National Press Photographers Association from 2016-2018, attended the Poynter Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media in 2018, and has served as a juror for Getty Images Editorial Grants, American Photography and The Fence, among other contests. She has volunteered with various industry organizations, including the Eddie Adams Workshop and Women Photograph. Her work has been recognized by NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism and Pictures of the Year International. She is a lover of animals and enjoys long walks around Brooklyn with her cockapoo and spouse.
