David Dockery and Tim Dunn Named to Board of Trustees

Dr. David S. Dockery is the president of Trinity International University and a prolific author and lecturer who has served in key leadership roles at several Christian institutions. Mr. Tim Dunn is the CEO of CrownQuest Operating, LLC, EnerQuest Oil & Gas, Ltd., and is also a partner of Texas Land Royalty.

The King’s College is proud to announce that David Dockery and Tim Dunn will join the Board of Trustees as its newest members.

Dr. David S. Dockery is the president of Trinity International University and a prolific author and lecturer who has served in key leadership roles at several Christian institutions. Mr. Tim Dunn is the CEO of CrownQuest Operating, LLC, EnerQuest Oil & Gas, Ltd., and is also a partner of Texas Land Royalty.

“The addition of these two leaders demonstrates our determination to build up strategic business thinking and bring recognized academic and theological expertise on the Board,” said Lee Hanley, Chairman of the Board.

Dockery currently serves as the president of Trinity International University, following over 18 years of leadership at Union University in Jackson, TN. During his time at Union, the university’s enrollment, retention, and graduation rates increased significantly, and the college strengthened its commitment to its mission and core values. Prior to coming to TIU and Union, Dr. Dockery served as the Chief Academic Officer at the Southern Baptist Seminary, as well as a Professor of Theology and the New Testament. Dr. Dockery holds the PhD from the University of Texas System, master’s degrees from Texas Christian University, Southwestern Seminary, and Grace Seminary, and an undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

President Gregory Thornbury is excited to welcome Dr. Dockery to King’s, “David Dockery is one of the most respected voices in Christian Higher Education. He is a theologian of the first order, and a mentor from whom I have learned so much.”

A prominent Christian leader, Dockery has served on numerous boards and committees, both local and global (including Christianity Today International, the Board of Directors for the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, and the Board for Prison Fellowship Ministries, where he continues to serve as the chair of the theology committee). Dockery is also a noteworthy and prolific lecturer, having delivered speeches at the Wheaton Theology Conference, the McCall Lectures at Southern Seminary, conferences at Baylor and Samford, and dozens of other institutions.

Dockery is the author or editor of 35 books (including Renewing Minds and Biblical Interpretation Then and Now), the contributor to over 50 other works, and the author of more than 100 articles and reviews, which have been published in various publications. Dr. Dockery holds numerous awards for his involvement and service, including the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the West Tennessee Red Cross and the Holman Christian Standard Award from Lifeway Christian Resources among many others. Dr. Dockery and his wife Lanese have been married for 38 years and have three married sons and six grandchildren.

Timothy Dunn

Tim Dunn has had a distinguished career in banking and the oil and gas industry. In addition to his work as a chief executive, he has also served as the chairman of the board of directors of Empower Texans and Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, as well as the vice chairman of the board of directors at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Dunn graduated from Texas Tech University in 1978 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He was a founding general partner of Parker and Parsley Development (which went on to become Pioneer Natural Resources), where he continued on to hold numerous positions, including Director, Executive Vice President, and Chief Financial Officer.

Dunn also helped to found Citizens for Self-Governance, which is an organization dedicated restoring the American tradition of self-governance. Its largest project seeks to recruit 100 volunteers in 3,000 state legislative districts to induce state legislatures to call for an Amending convention to restrain the power and jurisdiction of the federal government. Dunn also founded Midland Classical Academy, where he serves on the Board of Trustees. Mr. Dunn is an active member of Midland Bible Church, and he and his wife have six children and eight grandchildren.

Says Thornbury, “The words ‘strategic thinker’ truly apply to Tim Dunn. His life is an exemplar of the values and convictions of The King’s College. He is an entrepreneur, an innovator, and an educator who is characterized by both love of country and the Kingdom of God. I look forward to him working alongside our wonderful board, students, faculty, friends, and alumni of King’s.”

These new trustees come at an exciting time for The King’s College, following last spring’s appointment of Richard and Helen DeVosand the fall addition of Price Harding. This announcement also follows on the heels of Dr. Gregory Thornbury’s official inaugurationas President in April, further illustrating continued development and growth at King’s.
