As a Senior Fellow Dr. Todd von Helms brings nearly two decades of insight gained through working with teenagers, college students and clergy as an ordained minister, college professor, church consultant, research assistant and interviewer, chaplain and headmaster.

His educational preparation includes degrees from the University of Texas, Dallas Baptist University, Southwestern Seminary, Southern Seminary, Duke University and Southern Methodist University.  He has delivered lectures among multiple institutions of higher education, including Duke University, Criswell College and Southeastern Seminary.  As an Assistant Professor at Dallas Baptist University, von Helms taught numerous courses, including the History of Christianity, Systematic Theology, Christian Doctrine, New Testament Survey, U.S. History, World Religions and Spiritual Formation.

After completing his ThM degree at Duke University, von Helms worked on the Clergy Health Initiative and Clergy Compensation Study in the Divinity School, and also as a career advisor and director of the undergraduate internship program in the Sanford School of Public Policy.

Following his Duke tenure, von Helms accepted the University Chaplain Fellowship role at Southern Methodist University to learn from beloved chaplain Steve Rankin. While helping lead the university worship services, serving as a resident community chaplain, and teaching a weekly Bible study for dozens of fraternity students, von Helms completed doctoral studies under the supervision of renowned Methodist theologian William “Billy” Abraham.

Given his involvement with churches and also having been mentored by influential academic leaders such as Grant Wacker at Duke University, philosopher David Naugle and historian Michael Williams at DBU, von Helms provides a unique perspective from the two largest Protestant denominations in the country.  He has also served in the Anglican tradition as the chaplain and interim headmaster of St. David’s Episcopal School, one of the premier private preparatory schools in the nation.

Dr. von Helms holds memberships in the Golden Key National Honor Society, the National Dean’s List, the National English Honor Society (Sigma Tau Delta) and National History Honor Society (Phi Alpha Theta), the Baptist History and Heritage Society, the Evangelical Theological Society and the American Society of Church History.

In addition to serving as a Senior Fellow at The King’s College, Dr. von Helms is the chaplain and special assistant to the headmaster at St. David’s School, a Senior Fellow for the Center for Faith and Culture at Southeastern Seminary, and speaks to youth and college students throughout the nation.  His special interest includes connecting communities, churches and academia through events that feature internationally acclaimed speakers.
