The King's College

House of Susan B. Anthony

Mission

We are authentic individuals kindling life through purposeful relationships.

“Sooner or later we all discover that the important moments in life are not the advertised ones, not the birthdays, the graduations, the weddings, not the great goals achieved. The real milestones are less prepossessing. They come to the door of memory unannounced, stray dogs that amble in, sniff around a bit and simply never leave. Our lives are measured by these.” ― Susan B. Anthony

Values

Authenticity: We value what is real, raw, genuine, and true.

Influence: We strive to live an influential life. We want to make a marked difference in the world and to glorify God in our choices.

Intentionality: Intentional community is how we develop our gifts and face our weaknesses. Friendship is cultivated with commitment and grace.

Life: A purposeful, vibrant life blossoms in relationship with each other and with God. We are called and equipped to live abundantly, moving from glory to glory, from strength to strength.

The House Crest

Maroon: Traditionally representing patience, with victory, in battle.

White: Traditionally representing peace and sincerity. It is our goal to persevere in meaningful relationships calmly and humbly.

Cinquefoils: Signifying hope and joy. Romans 15:13: “The God of hope will fill us with joy and peace as we continually place our trust in Him.”

Quill and Inkwell: Representing Susan B. Anthony’s medium of choice for speaking truth to the world around her. We seek to emulate her influence.

Flame: Standing for a zeal for life full of truth and wisdom. Representing a kindling of our values.

Cornish Crow: Signifying Anthony’s watchfulness for those closest to her.

Traditions

Super Suzie Song: Started by twins Emily and Courtney O’Dell in 2007. “We are the Super Suzies…yeah, that’s who we are…”

The Peacock Feather: In 2009-2010 school year, King’s alumnus and long-time SBA fan Chris Ross described the women in our House as “conservatively provocative.”

Black and Pearls: We are classy and well-dressed women.

The Alumnae Dinner: Started by Kara Simmons in 2017 to keep the sisterhood of SBA alive beyond graduation.

Women of Influence: Started by Rachel Baxter in 2005 to bring in successful women to speak to the College ladies about their challenges, successes, and views on womanhood.

Raid, Raid, Pillage, and Burn Chant: The House of Ronald Reagan was coaching us for PowderPuff and created this lovely chant for us.
