Parent and Family Weekend a Success
Over 120 Guests Visit The King’s College in October
The King’s College had a record turnout for Parent and Family Weekend this year. Last weekend, over 120 parents and family members joined their students in New York City. This is the first year since moving to the Financial District campus that The King’s College has hosted a dedicated weekend for parents. Parent and Family Weekend 2013 is a part of The King's College 75th Anniversary celebration.
The event began on Friday, October 25, with a welcome reception at a restaurant venue in midtown Manhattan and came to a close with church visits on Sunday. On Saturday, King’s students, staff, and faculty hosted the families for faculty lectures, campus tours, a "TKC Parenting 101" panel session, tours through the Financial District, and multiple meals.
"Parent and Family Weekend was delightful. It was such an honor and an encouragement to hear Dr. Thornbury's opinions concerning the school, the students and the faculty. I learned so much in Dr. Bleattler's class this year, as I did last year in Professor Brenberg's class. King's truly has an amazing faculty. Being a family that loves history, Audrey and I certainly enjoyed the opportunity to learn some new facts during the walking tour. The food for the weekend was delicious and everything was set up wonderfully well," Donna Walczak told King’s staff, thanking the College for setting up the event.
On Saturday, President Greg Thornbury addressed the parents and family with his vision for The King’s College, which resonated with the guests.

The parents and guests that attended this year were so receptive and supportive toward The King’s College, even President Thornbury was moved. "This fall's Parent and Family Weekend was a spectacular success on every level," said Thornbury, "Parents traveled from all over the map to be with their students and to hear from faculty, staff, and the administration about the great happenings at The King's College this year. Here was my take away: the parents of King's students are the most hopeful, enthusiastic, and helpful group of people I have ever seen. To partner with these families in educating this generation of leaders is all my joy."
The King’s College has a lot of exciting events scheduled for this year, and Parent and Family Weekend showed enthusiasm for the College’s growth and trajectory.
"The Record turnout for Parents' Weekend is yet another example of the renewed interest in what God is doing at The King’s College," said Eric Bennett, Vice President for Student Development, "The energy demonstrated by parents and families visiting our Wall Street campus for the first time was nothing short of spectacular. Parents seemed especially pleased with the increased focus on spiritual life at King’s this year and by Dr. Gregory Thornbury’s vision for the College. Parents' Weekend was, as Dr. Thornbury might say, ‘splendiferous.’"
