The King’s College is pleased to congratulate Alexandra Nykamp ’16 on receipt of the Richard and Helen DeVos Freedom Center Leadership Award, presented by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.

The DeVos Award is presented by ISI to undergraduates who have inspired members of their campus communities. Nykamp received the award at the annual ISI gala, held on October 22, 2015 at the University Club of New York. The award is presented in honor of longtime ISI friend Rich DeVos, co-founder of Amway and owner of the Orlando Magic NBA franchise. DeVos’s philanthropy has underwritten the membership and recruiting efforts of ISI through the DeVos Freedom Center. Richard and Helen DeVos are also members of The King’s College’s Board of Trustees. The award was presented by Andrea DeVos Abraham, granddaughter of Richard and Helen DeVos.

Nykamp, who hails from Cleveland, Ohio, is majoring in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, with a minor in Business. She serves as President of the House of Sojourner Truth and works as a Student Services Representative at King’s. During her sophomore year, Nykamp studied law, British political history, and economics at Christ Church at the University of Oxford for two terms. She was a reporter at and editor of the Empire State Tribune and interned this summer on Capitol Hill for Representative Bill Johnson (R-OH). Nykamp hopes to pursue further studies in law or business.

The Intercollegiate Studies Institute, founded by journalist Frank Chodorov, William F. Buckley, and other early conservative and libertarian intellectuals in 1953, seeks to revive the American ideals of individual freedom and personal responsibility by developing principled leaders in all corners of  American society, including higher education, public service, the media, and business and finance.
