"Having someone as renowned as Dr. Stump as our Interregnum speaker is a huge honor for King’s"
Each spring, The King’s College holds "Interregnum," a student competition that combines creativity, intellect, and teamwork.
In Latin, the word interregnum means "the time between kings." At King’s, Interregnum is a three-day break from classes filled with speaking, art, and writing competitions focused on a designated theme.
The theme of Interregnum X is Mercy, and it encourages students to study mercy as it is found in scripture and in the world. Lectures, film screenings, and many other events surrounding the topic are held throughout the school year, all culminating during the three-day competition.
The King’s College Interregnum Committee recently announced that Dr. Eleonore Stump will deliver a keynote address to close out the theme at the end of competition this April.
Dr. Stump is the Robert J. Henle Professor of Philosophy at Saint Louis University, where she has taught since 1992. She has published extensively in philosophy of religion, contemporary metaphysics, and medieval philosophy.
"Having someone as renowned as Dr. Stump as our Interregnum speaker is a huge honor for King’s," said Christopher Kendall, Chairman of the Interregnum Committee. "She sent us the abstract for a speech she had been thinking of giving for a while and it just so happened to fit perfectly with our theme."
Her books include Aquinas (Routledge, 2003) and her extensive treatment of the problem of evil,Wandering in Darkness: Narrative and the Problem of Suffering (Oxford, 2010).
She has also given the Gifford Lectures (Aberdeen, 2003), the Wilde lectures (Oxford, 2006), and the Stewart lectures (Princeton, 2009).
Furthermore, Dr. Stump is President Emeritus of the Society of Christian Philosophers, the American Catholic Philosophical Association, and the American Philosophical Association, Central Division.
"It is truly a blessing that students of The King’s College will be able hear from Dr. Stump for this address to conclude one of the most exciting times of the year," said Kendall.
In the heart of New York City, The King's College is an accredited, Christian liberal arts college. Through the truths of Christianity and great works in politics, philosophy, and economics, we are educating the next generation of leaders for America and the world.
