Beginning in the Fall 2015 semester, many more students at The King’s College will be living within a few blocks of campus.

“While our long-term goal is to buy a building to house all our students, our short-term goal is to move as many of our students as close as possible to campus,” said Shelli Cline, Associate Dean of Students. “By moving these students to the FiDi, we’ve taken a significant step toward that goal.”

“With this housing acquisition, we double the amount of student housing in the Financial District,” said David Leedy, Dean of Students. “It is an understatement to say that I am thrilled. Not only will this make for an easier commute for many students, it will also afford greater opportunity for building stronger community. By living in proximity to campus and to other students, it is easier for students to stay connected to one another.”

The College has signed leases on housing in two new buildings and plans to move the students who are currently living in Herald Towers, located in midtown Manhattan, to three buildings within a few minutes’ walk of campus. The new buildings include luxury apartments, gyms, laundry in the building, security personnel in each lobby, sun decks, and on-site dry cleaning.

“The ideal college campus features community within a reasonable walking distance of classrooms, faculty, and peers,” said President Gregory Alan Thornbury. “Thanks to the hard work of Vice President Eric Bennett and Dean of Students David Leedy, I am thrilled that we have now found options for our student housing within our historic location here on Broadway at Exchange Place, adjacent to Wall Street.”

“Ever since King’s moved down to the Financial District, there has been a disconnect between the Housing locations and the School’s location,” said Reese Evans, President-Elect of the Student Body at King’s. “I see the goal of moving all of King’s housing down to the Financial District as one that is extremely timely and difficult, but achievable. This new contract will allow more Houses to move to the Financial District, which is part of the goal, and continues to bring our community closer together. God is good, and these new housing locations work perfectly with our Wall Street location.”

Some students will remain in the Vogue apartment building, located in midtown Manhattan, for which the College’s lease expires during summer of 2016. Work will continue during the 2015-16 school year to secure additional housing near campus so that all midtown student housing is relocated to the Financial District.
