We are witnessing a spiritual renaissance on the King’s campus this year. The 2011-12 academic year was spiritually lackluster; this year we see signs of spiritual renewal.

Last year, corporate worship gatherings averaged 10 students in attendance. This year’s “Refuge”, our revamped worship gathering, has exploded. Each of the gatherings so far have averaged 100-125 students, staff, and faculty.

Thursday, October 3, was dedicated a day of fasting and prayer. Students responded in en masse; more than fifty signed up for the day via Facebook. At noon, rather going out for lunch, 40 gathered together on campus to seek God’s favor for The King’s College and for NYC. That night, 100+ gathered at the Refuge to celebrate God in worship and break the fast together.

The King’s Liturgy is playing an important role in the King’s community. The Liturgy includes selected weekly Scripture readings and celebration of Holy Days. Much of the King’s community is reading and discussing the same Scriptures every week. One senior had this to say about the Liturgy: “Because I don’t come from a liturgical church background I was honestly initially skeptical of the liturgical calendar.

The spiritual resurgence on campus is starting to spill over into the City. A handful of students are reaching local high school kids with Cru High School. Others are gearing up to stand against human trafficking through The Price of Life, mentor Dominican youth in Washington Heights with Operation Exodus, teach English as a second language to North African immigrants, and serve the homeless with The Bowery Mission.

Incredible.
