From Karl Franklin ’54: “My wife, Joice Barnett Franklin, and I are now retired and live in Waco, Texas near our family: Mike Hardin, MD, and Karol, PhD, and three grandchildren. Our son Kirk, PhD, and his wife Christine, along with three grandchildren and two great grandsons, live in Australia. You can view my website at www.karlfranklin.com.”

Lois Watson ’54 writes, “We are extremely thankful to have survived an E3 tornado that devastated our part of Pensacola, FL in Feb this year . We sustained damage but are thankful there was no loss of life.”

Ruth Lothers ’60 writes, “My husband, Dr. John E. (Jack) Lothers, who taught at TKC from 1958 to 1961, went home to heaven on May 16. He had poor health for several years and was on hospice care since last September. We moved to Lancaster County, SC in 2006 and volunteered at JAARS in Waxhaw, NC as long as his health permitted.”

Ruthann Jaeger ’64 says, “My husband Bob and I are retired and still riding our Harleys across the USA and Canada, spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ on 2 wheels. We each ride our own Road King. We are members of the Sons-of-God MC, a large Christian motorcycle club which has chapters throughout the USA and Canada. We enjoy riding up and down the East Coast between our Philadelphia, PA home and our Jupiter, FL home twice a year. We do prison ministry and biker ministry in Sturgis every year. This month we will again ride out to Montana and Calgary, Canada. God is good and He is faithful! See you in the wind!”

Judy and Ralph Skeels ’65 celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 25, 2016. They write, “In honor of the occasion, we are taking a riverboat cruise on the Seine and cruising from Paris to Normandy. It has been 50 years of exciting adventures and challenges. Our son Dennick bought a commercial paving company and is in the process of purchasing 2 more companies under the umbrella of 3D Facility Services.”

Bob Dayton ’66 says his present activities include being the grandfather of Eilidh Miller and Theodore Dayton; the pastor of Central Presbyterian Church in Tarentum, PA; the President of St. David’s Society of Pittsburgh; a board member of the North American Festival Wales; vice president of the Pittsburgh Puppetry Guild; and an active puppeteer in western Pennsylvania.

Jack Carey ’72 is retired and enjoying it, living in Yucaipa, CA. “Married 43 years,” he writes, “with two children and three grandsons. We have been volunteering as puppy raisers, raising service dogs for the blind and disabled for Guide Dogs of the Desert since 1997. Also, traveling abroad whenever possible.”

David Newton ’81 saw his tenth book released on March 20: The Misguided History of American Taxes: The Origins, Rationales, and Madness that Limit Freedom and Reduce Economic Growth, with a foreword by Fred Barnes, executive editor of The Weekly Standard. Available on Amazon, this is Dr. Newton’s fourth title in the E3 Free Market Press series, joining Job Creation (2010), Business Models for Entrepreneurial Ventures (2011), and Crisis of Confidence (2012). He writes, “I continue to have a full schedule of speaking events to business and trade associations, political clubs and organizations, colleges and universities, chambers of commerce, talk radio, newspapers, and invited conferences hosted by Young America’s Foundation.” Congratulations, Dr. Newton!

Laurie Eccleston ’82 is looking forward to receiving a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in May of 2017. She writes, “I am leaving teaching at the Texas State Technical College to finish my internships. I can use prayers for this transition to a career as a mental health counselor at 57 years of age. It is never too late to start a new career; this will be my fifth.”

Roger Thomas ’82 is excited to enter his 35th and last year as a teacher, soccer coach, and advisor, looking forward to some sabbatical time and then retreading not retiring. Roger has taught science at Mt Voew, fondly remembering the example of numerous science professors at The King’s College. Roger has parlayed his soccer experience at King’s into many years of high school and club coaching, including District Championships, State Finals appearances and a championship, and assistant coaching in the U.S. Youth Soccer U-18 National Championship Game and run-up.

Adam Brill ’14 took and passed all four CPA exams in 2015 and recently received an award from the Indiana CPA Society for achieving high scores on the exams. He currently works for BKD, LLP as an auditor and will achieve his CPA certification approximately a year from now, once the experience requirement is met.
