Clayton Chambers proved that a King’s degree can be flexible enough for every career. A Saint Cloud, Florida, native, Clay graduated in 2015 from the House of C.S. Lewis and took his Politics, Philosophy and Economics degree to form Brothers & Craft with his brothers–a creative lifestyle brand that they formed as an outlet to share with others the things they love. We took some time with Clay to see what his life after King’s looks like, and how King’s shaped his career.

What does Brothers & Craft do?

Our aim has always been, through storytelling, to discover exceptional design, refine our own styles, and encourage thoughtful, practical living. These days we work with fashion and lifestyle brands creatively. Our work ranges from photography, to brand development, to marketing & content strategy. We are constantly asking ourselves how we can blend narrative and storytelling into what we do.

What led you to this job?

Trying new things and being open-minded takes you to some strange places. Choosing to study in New York led me to the jobs, internships, and people who shape the way I see the world. I grew up in Florida mowing lawns and landscaping, but in New York I worked every odd job out there–and they all tend to be my favorite, though for different reasons. I took whatever work I could get: I babysat at a church on the Upper East Side, I tutored Indian kids in Queens, I interned for the most prestigious fashion designer in New York. I have been the faculty assistant for several classes at school. I have catered events and parties for New York’s wealthiest–and I have cherished each job experience. If anything, I wish I would have pursued more internship opportunities. Each experience is invaluable as you try and discover what it is that you love doing.

How do you see your job as being in a place of influence?

We live in strange days. The digital, creative, advertising realm is constantly evolving. We have a small window to make history, or we can sit passively as we watch other people change the world. For what we are building with B&C, I want us to be influential in changing the way the world creates and tells stories.

How has King’s influenced your work?

When I enrolled at King’s, I wanted to leave having become a better thinker and a better writer. I finished my degree gaining just that. I think and write everyday, so I blend those improvements into my daily work, whether I am in a meeting or crafting new ideas for clients. King’s also taught me to ask questions–every day.

Here at King’s, our faculty are invested in the students both during their time here and beyond. Associate Professor of Theology and Ethics, Dr. Anthony Bradley, has invested in the life of Clayton, and reflects, “The work that Clayton and his brothers are doing is precisely the direction we point our students toward here at King’s. The emphasis on story, narrative, wise living, and so on, is derived from the story of God’s mission to restore all things. What Clayton and his brothers are doing is putting Philippians 4:8 on display and the marketplace is responding in kind.”
