Center for Study of Human Flourishing to Sponsor Discussion of Overcriminalization and Mass Incarceration This Fall

On Thursday, September 29th, Dr. Anthony Bradley—Associate Professor of Religious Studies, Chair of the Program in Religious and Theological Studies, and Director of the Center for the Study of Human Flourishing at The King's College—joins several of America's leading criminal law professors at the Princeton Club to discuss the facts of the national prison population and new solutions for sustainable criminal justice reform.

Overcriminalization and mass incarceration are important topics today in both the public square and the academy. Nearly 2.3 million men and women are incarcerated in America, representing explosive growth in the prison population over the past few years. Scholars focus on the racial implications of the War on Drugs to explain this increase—but new data shows that less than 20% of America’s prisoners were incarcerated for drug offenses. What accounts for this growth?

On Thursday, September 29th, Dr. Anthony Bradley—Associate Professor of Religious Studies, Chair of the Program in Religious and Theological Studies, and Director of the Center for the Study of Human Flourishing at The King’s College—joins several of America’s leading criminal law professors at the Princeton Club to discuss the facts of the national prison population and new solutions for sustainable criminal justice reform. Participants include Bradley, James Forman Jr. (Yale Law School), Stephanos Bibas (University of Pennsylvania Law School), and John Pfaff (Fordham University School of Law).

The event, titled “Overcriminalization and Mass Incarceration: Race and Justice Beyond The New Jim Crow” is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Human Flourishing.
