The King’s College is pleased to announce that Dr. Marvin Olasky will give the evening lecture for Interregnum XIV: Compassion. The lecture will take place Tuesday, April 3 at 7:00PM at 150 West 83rd Street on the Upper West Side.

Dr. Olasky is the editor-in-chief of WORLD Magazine, and the author of more than 20 books including The Tragedy of American Compassion and Compassionate Conservatism, which was instrumental in defining the idea of ‘compassionate conservatism.’ In addition, Dr. Olasky serves as the Distinguished Chair in Journalism and Public Policy at Patrick Henry College in Virginia. He is the former provost of The King’s College, a position he held from 2007 to 2011.

WORLD Magazine, under Dr. Olasky’s leadership, sponsors the annual Hope Awards for Effective Compassion, which honor local Christian poverty-fighting groups that offer challenging, personal, and spiritual help and do not depend on government financing. Past awards have gone to a homeless shelter, a legal program supporting the poor, a ministry that rescues women from prostitution, and most recently, in 2017, a school called Delta Streets Academy.

Courtney Stonefelt ‘18, Interregnum Co-Chair, said,As a Committee, we have been thinking a lot about the idea of compassion in action. It has been most important for us to not simply think of compassion as a theoretical idea, but as an activity to practice and a virtue to steward well. We are excited about Dr. Olasky because his career has had a major focus on the practical application of compassion in political life, specifically within the spheres of welfare and social policy. We know he will bring a learned and insightful perspective to our discussion.”

As a pre-Interregnum event, Dr. Olasky will also interview author, radio host and King’s Senior Fellow Eric Metaxas on the Interregnum theme of Compassion. The interview takes place Monday, April 2 at 7:00 PM in the O’Keeffe Student Union on the King’s campus (56 Broadway, entrance at Exchange Place and New Street). This event is free to attend, but seating is limited. Reserve your spot now.
