King’s Named a College of Distinction, Awarded for Excellence in Career Development and Business

July 31, 2019 | Abby Smith

The King’s College has received national recognition from Colleges of Distinction for its individualized and engaging education. The accolade as a College of Distinction (2019-20) speaks to the College’s emphasis on student success and the effectiveness of its curriculum.

King’s also earned recognitions including Christian College of Distinction (2019-20) and New York College of Distinction (2019-20), and received national endorsement for its Business program and Career Development services. These additional accolades reward the College’s unique blend of liberal arts education with practical- and soft-skills development, with abundant opportunities for real-world application.

The Colleges of Distinction awards are unique among popular college guide classifications, which typically rank schools on the basis of hollow numbers like the size of endowment, selectivity, and faculty salaries. The King’s College instead earned these recognitions for excellence exhibited in the classroom, incorporating High-Impact Practices throughout every student’s undergraduate education. Such student-centered programs include writing-intensive courses, an interdisciplinary core curriculum, opportunities for global study, and meaningful networking.

“We are so proud to see The King’s College walking the walk,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer for Colleges of Distinction. “Colleges of Distinction knows that a truly valuable education can’t be measured by rank or reputation. Students learn and thrive best when they embrace hands-on learning in a vibrant, welcoming community. That’s why it’s so encouraging to find The King’s College take such an innovative approach with its curriculum: its High-Impact Educational Practices ensure that the undergraduate experience is worthwhile and unique.”

Colleges of Distinction’s selection process consists of detailed interviews and research for each institution’s freshman experience and retention efforts alongside its general education programs, career development, strategic plan, student satisfaction, and more. Schools are accepted on the basis that they adhere to the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes.

“The King’s College puts the student experience first, providing all the tools and opportunities they need to become lifelong learners who are ready to take on any challenge in today’s ever-evolving society,” said Schritter. “All of its programs are backed with broad perspectives across the liberal arts. And with such extensive experiential learning opportunities, it’s no wonder why King’s graduates feel expertly prepared by their professional education.”
