Professor Alissa Wilkinson, in addition to teaching cultural theory and criticism in the College’s Media, Culture, and the Arts program, has been Christianity Today’s film critic for the past three and a half years and a staff writer at King’s for the past two. This month, she will leave those additional writing positions to join Vox as a film critic and writer, while continuing to teach full-time at the College. As Staff Writer, she will work with Vox’s Culture department to cover film in an accessible way for a general audience and explore how movies fit into the broader culture.

Wilkinson said, “After a decade of freelancing, I’m looking forward to being able to concentrate my writing efforts in one place and share my experiences with students in my classes. It reflects well on King’s, because I’m the criticism professor here. Vox is a leading publication in the new digitally-driven journalism world, and students who take my class, either as matriculated King’s students or as part of the New York City Journalism Semester, will benefit from my experiences as well.”

Wilkinson was recently promoted to Associate Professor of English and Humanities and will continue to teach courses in Cultural Criticism and Principles of Cultural Interpretation this fall, and advise senior thesis students.

President Gregory A. Thornbury said, “A central aspect of the mission of King’s comes from the commitment to see faculty members flourish in their disciplines in addition to the classroom. Professor Wilkinson is doing this in the most impressive way possible. Her work is admired and respected both among critics and popular audiences alike.

For more than 75 years, The King’s College has educated young leaders to integrate their faith, ethics, and morality seamlessly into their lives and careers.
