The King’s College Honors Coreen Cook

Coreen Cook, the beloved wife of Dr. Robert A. Cook, went home to be with the Lord this past Tuesday at the age of 99. Dr. Cook was the second president of The King’s College, succeeding Dr. Percy Crawford and assuming the presidency in 1962. From then until his death in 1991, Dr. Cook served The King’s College with Coreen by his side. Coreen Nielson Cook was born on April 21, 1914 to Norwegian immigrants Harold and Hilda Nilsen. She was raised in Chicago with sister, Evelyn. As a child she attended the Logan Square Norwegian Baptist Church, where she gave her life to Christ. Coreen graduated from North Park College in 1935.That same year, she married her longtime sweetheart. She was the perfect partner for their years of ministry to come. With her talent and temperament, she served with Dr. Cook through two pastorates, the Presidency of Youth for Christ International, Scripture Press, the Presidency of The King’s College, National Association of Evangelicals, and National Religious Broadcasters. While Bob ministered and travelled around the globe, Coreen held down the home front caring for three daughters and aging parents.According to those that knew here closely, Coreen was a woman of strength, graciousness, kindness, dignity, and humility. She reminded us that serving the Lord, even with all of its sacrifice, is eternally worthwhile. She had a deep love for the Lord, His work and His Word, reading through the Bible many times. Nothing gave her more joy than seeing people turn their lives over to Christ.At The King’s College, we are especially thankful for Coreen’s touch on our school. She is a gracious and loving addition to our legacy. Coreen expressed a dedication to The King’s College matched in her time only by her husband. Their home was often filled with students and guests from our campus.Coreen enjoyed gardening, entertaining, and taking care of her family–all of which she did with selfless love and diligence. We rejoice in the fact that she is with her King and her husband in Glory.Memorial contributions can be made in Coreen’s name to Walk With The King, Inc.
