Douglass came to Campus Crusade with a resume that included a bachelor’s degree from M.I.T. and a masters degree in business administration from Harvard. During the next 32 years he held a variety of positions with Campus Crusade, including executive vice president and director of U.S. Ministries. In July 2001, founder Dr. William R. Bright personally selected Douglass to be his successor.
"I count it a privilege to see such a strong, devoted man respond to the challenge of leading Campus Crusade for Christ into the next millennium," Dr. Bright said in 2000 when he announced Douglass as his successor. "My wife, Vonette, and I are fully confident that Steve, with whom we have worked for more than 30 years, knows and understands our movement as well as anybody, and better than most. He genuinely seeks to honor our Lord in his actions and decisions." Mr. Douglass is the author and co-author of several books, including Managing Yourself, How to Achieve Your Potential and Enjoy Life, and Enjoying Your Walk with God. Along with his wife Judy, Mr. Douglass resides in Orlando, Fla. They have three married children, Debbie, Michelle, and Josh, as well as three grandchildren.
