Procrastination is a perennial topic of conversation in Student Success, and in many of our lives. Some of us feel especially focused and motivated when a deadline is quickly approaching, and we use the pressure to fuel the completion of a task or project. When the deadline looms, that’s when we get motivated. But have you ever wondered if there is a better way? Could you prevent unnecessary stress by changing your habit of procrastination?

In order to change any behavior, it’s helpful to understand more about why we do what we do. So today we offer you a research-based lecture by Dr. Tim Pychyl, an Associate Professor in Psychology at Carlton University, on procrastination– including what you might do to change.

After watching and listening to Dr. Pychyl’s lecture, choose one thing you might do to improve your approach to managing deadlines, and try it out today. Consider how it works for you, and decide how to improve that approach before you try again. Practice will help you incorporate these new approaches into your daily and weekly rhythms.
