E. Bailey Marks, Sr.
December 17, 1932 — February 13, 2020
Edward Bailey Marks, Sr., a trustee emeritus at The King’s College in New York City, passed away from his home in Melbourne, Fla. on February 13, 2020. He was 87 years old and served actively on the King’s board from 1998 to 2012.
Mr. Marks was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1955 with a degree in Business Administration.
For two years he served as a naval officer before returning to the family business. He and his wife, Elizabeth, became acquainted with the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ through their church shortly after receiving Christ. Three years later, after serving as the President of the very successful family business for ten years, the Marks’ joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ in 1967. Mr. Marks first served as a personal assistant to the president, Dr. William R. Bright, and then took responsibility for the Asian ministry.
The Markses lived in Asia from 1968-1981. In 1981, Dr. Bright challenged Mr. Marks to assume all the responsibilities of Campus Crusade’s ministries outside of North America as the international vice president. He accepted and the Markses relocated to Germany where the International field office was located. In 1986 Bailey received an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of outstanding achievement in world evangelism.
On November 21, 2000, Mr. Marks stepped aside as the international vice president. In January 2002, Mr. Marks became the president of the International Leadership University, a branch of the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. Bailey is survived by children Lisa Marks Trotter (David), Bailey Marks Jr. (Denise) and Rebecca Marks Curry (Jonathan) as well as 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
