Emily Pippin ’58 of Palm Bay, FL, writes, “We enjoy keeping in touch with former classmates. Leon has battled stage 4 cancer for 7 years, but the Lord has been gracious and has allowed him to continue writing through all the pain and struggle of chemo during that time. I have recently been in touch with Carol Hansen Smoke and Shirley Wills Irwin, who, with me, made up the Ambassadors traveling gospel trio during the summer of 1955. Leon and I have four children, eight grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.”

Ruth Johnston ’62 of Paterson, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on October 8, 2016. She was 76. Her obituary was published here.

Lucy Snow Fawley ’65 writes, “After the passing of my husband, R. John Snow, in a skiing accident in 2012, I moved from Vermont to Indiana, where I met Max Fawley—a retired cattle farmer who had also lost his wife the same year. We were married in 2014 and now live at Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake, Indiana. The Lord has been gracious and compassionate to us and we rejoice in His mercies each day.”

Gayle Brosnan-Watters ’68 writes, “I was part of the class of 1968, but as many first- and second-year students did back then, I quit and got married and had children. I went back to school in 1987, and earned a BS, MA, and Ph.D. by 1996. I then went on to teach, retiring in 2015 from Arizona Christian University—the second time I retired. Now I find myself coming out of retirement again (at 70), and I’m currently teaching in the Foundations class of Psychology and Leadership at West Point Military Academy. It’s an honor and a pleasure to have a part in the lives of these young men and women who will serve our country.”

Nancy (Guarraia) Avedikian of Northeastern Bible College (’67-8) has released a new book, Sabados con papa. Written in Spanish, it is a collection of memories of times she spent with her father. She writes, “It will capture the hearts of girls and women, both young and old! More importantly, it will lead readers to put their faith in Christ and then have a wonderful Heavenly Father. I hope it will be used in outreach programs in both English and Spanish-speaking churches.” It is a short chapter book, available on Amazon in the Spanish new releases section, or directly from the publisher. It is also available in e-book form.

Roger Arnold, who would have graduated from NBC in 1957 had he not been drafted into the military first, was ordained into ministry following his service. He served two different churches in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. until 1999, when he retired and moved to northeast Kansas. He and his wife Celestine request prayers for their daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Jesse Hamilton. Jesse has battled cancer before and was declared cancer-free after having his stomach removed, until a cancerous ulcer was detected this year. In October, Sheryl and Jesse traveled to Chicago for treatment and consultations, after which Jesse decided to forego further surgery. He is content to wait until the Lord heals him or takes him home. Please pray for his healing and his family’s peace.

Linda (Irwin) Frisa ’82 and her husband Larry have been in the Austin area for almost 30 years. Larry has worked as an engineer/scientist in the semiconductor industry, and Linda has worked as a proofreader and administrative assistant at Hill Country Bible Church. They have two sons; one in the US Air Force, and the other is finishing his mechanical engineering degree at Texas Tech University. Linda and Larry are now in their mid-50s, and God has called them to full-time ministry, drawing on the many cross-cultural experiences they’ve had both in the US and living in Europe. They have joined the staff of Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ) and will be working with the Christian Embassy in London. This ministry partners with local churches and Members of Parliament to serve diplomats and their wives from nations worldwide. They are currently building their ministry partner team and plan to move to London in the summer of 2017. They are very excited to be used by God among the world’s leaders.
