In times of social upheaval and political acrimony, William F. Buckley was a icon of grace and civility. An author, commentator, journalist, and stalwart conservative, Buckley was best known as the founder of National Review magazine and as the host of the television show Firing Line.

Through these mediums, Buckley developed and communicated a unifying brand of conservatism, and successfully defended his vision against intellectual challenges. The key tenets of his political philosophy–strong national defense, limited government, free markets, and morality grounded in Judeo-Christian faith–are espoused today by politicians, think tanks, and student organizations such as Young Americans for Freedom, which Buckley helped found. Buckley was a class act and a consensus builder, whose ideas have shaped strategic institutions for decades.
